Friedrichshafen, September 19, 2024. The trade fair for granulate, powder and bulk solids technologies in Dortmund, Germany, has come up with something special this year to inspire the international audience: The ‘Bulk Masters’ hackathon will start on October 8 2024 - the new hands-on event at the trade fair duo Solids and Recycling-Technik and Zeppelin Systems has been nominated as a challenge donor in the ‘Food goes Powder’ category. The aim is to find an automated solution for the thorough and efficient cleaning of the Zeppelin Systems ‘DymoMix’ premixer, which is used in the food sector. Unusual solutions are expressly encouraged. We Create Solutions!
The ‘Bulk Masters’ hackathon brings people with different skills, strengths and perspectives together to solve problems and develop innovative solutions: Within just 48 hours before and during the trade fair, students, engineers, developers, designers and other interdisciplinary talents are tasked with solving real and relevant problems from the process industry. Global plant manufacturer Zeppelin Systems supports the inventive spirit of the creative minds and was happy to be a challenge sponsor for the first Solids Hackathon. ‘As a global plant manufacturer, the hackathon is a wonderful opportunity for us to leave the beaten track and find new, innovative solutions. That's why we see it as a great opportunity to be a challenge provider here,’ says Hans Schneider, Vice President Technology & Innovation at Zeppelin Systems GmbH. Markus Vöge, CEO of Zeppelin Systems GmbH, adds: ‘Maximum creativity in the shortest possible time with high innovation potential - that is an unbeatable triad that we as a company did not want to miss out on and we are very excited about the results.’
Wanted: Fresh perspectives, innovative approaches
Under the motto ‘Food goes Powder’, the hackathon is looking for ground-breaking innovations to revolutionize the way food is produced. Zeppelin Systems is challenging the competing teams and individuals to find new solutions for the automated cleaning of the ‘DymoMix’. The highly specialized machine for the wetting and intensive mixing of powdery dry ingredients with liquids is primarily used in the production of bread and baked goods. Despite its efficiency and effectiveness, there is one significant challenge: cleaning. In order to reduce the manual effort and cleaning time, an automated solution is therefore being sought that ensures compliance with the high hygiene standards of the food industry.
During the hackathon, Zeppelin Systems colleagues will provide the competing creative minds with background knowledge and support them in completing the challenge. Are the solutions developed interesting? Then they can be further developed together with the teams after the trade fair. There will also be various challenges as part of the hackathon under the motto ‘Young Professionals’ and in the spirit of promoting young talent.
The winning team that comes up with the best solution among all the challenges will receive €10,000 in prize money and the chance to play an active role in shaping the future. There will be equally attractive prize money for second and third place. There are still places available to apply for the hackathon!
